Job description
We are seeking an Energy Commodities Trader to join our energy trading desk. This role is critical in driving our market-making capabilities and proprietary trading strategies across European and global energy markets (Power, Natural Gas, or Carbon).
The ideal candidate brings a proven track record in derivative energy trading, a deep understanding of physical and financial power/gas market dynamics, and the technical aptitude to leverage algorithmic tools and data-driven models to optimize portfolio performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, refine, and execute advanced trading and market-making strategies across prompt, curve, and cross-commodity energy markets.
- Monitor and analyze energy market fundamentals—including grid constraints, weather models, generation mix, regulatory shifts, and storage dynamics—to capture alpha and make rapid, high-conviction decisions.
- Partner closely with quant analysts and software engineers to build, test, and enhance automated trading algorithms, execution tools, and price-forecasting models.
- Actively manage real-time power and gas risk exposure, market risk, ensuring strict compliance with exchange rules, REMIT/regulatory frameworks, and internal risk limits.
- Deliver actionable insights to optimize trading efficiency and boost overall desk profitability.
Experience & Qualifications
- 2+ years of active trading experience in energy derivative instruments (Power, Gas, Coal, or Carbon).
- Strong, verifiable track record at a Market Making firm, Energy Merchant, or Utility trading desk.
- Hands-on programming experience in Python and/or C++ for data analysis, backtesting strategies, or building trading tools.
