About Webb Traders
Webb Traders is an Amsterdam proprietary trading firm and options market maker, founded in 2009 by Marco van den Berg and Thijs Booij, two traders who had previously worked together at Van der Moolen. The firm started out in cash arbitrage and has since grown into a technology-led market maker in equity derivatives, with offices in Amsterdam (Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal) and Paris and a team of roughly 60 to 100 people from more than 25 nationalities.
Webb specialises in single-stock options market making on European and U.S. mid and large cap equities, and quotes across more than a million instruments in cash equities, derivatives and FX. It holds memberships on the major European exchanges (Eurex and Euronext among them) and has a significant U.S. presence, with a growing crypto quantitative trading desk. The firm is regulated by the AFM and DNB.
In February 2026 Marex Group announced it would acquire Webb Traders, and the deal closed in August 2026. Webb now sits inside Marex’s Market Making division, where its options expertise is also used to internalise hedging for Marex’s structured products business. Marex highlighted Webb’s prudent approach to risk and its profitability across market environments.
What Webb Trades
- Single-stock options: market making on European and U.S. mid and large cap names, the core of the business.
- Cash equities and futures: arbitrage and hedging flow on Eurex, Euronext and U.S. venues.
- FX and crypto: systematic strategies, with crypto quantitative trading as a current growth area.
Culture and Benefits
Webb describes its culture around openness, community, enjoyment and what it calls boundary-free entrepreneurship: a flat hierarchy where people are given autonomy and trusted to act on it. The firm’s motto is “One person can make a market, but a community can move it.” Perks the firm lists include weekly team get-togethers, an annual company trip, a professional development budget and a lot of freedom and responsibility from day one. Candidates on review sites consistently describe the recruiting team as prompt and respectful.
Hiring at Webb Traders
Webb hires quantitative traders, quant risk analysts and software engineers (C++ and Python, trading development and data infrastructure) for Amsterdam and Paris, including graduate quantitative developer roles. There is no large structured internship programme; internships are offered ad hoc.
Based on candidate reports, the process runs roughly as follows:
- Screening: a call with HR and the hiring manager after an online application or recruiter contact.
- Take-home or online assessment: for engineers a CodeSignal test with two practical problems (data manipulation rather than puzzle-style questions); for traders an interview with a senior quant trader.
- Technical rounds: engineers discuss low-latency, distributed systems design with the team; traders present a business case and go through a technical interview.
- Final round: on site in Amsterdam or Paris, for traders with the Head of Trading.
The whole loop typically takes about two weeks. Candidates describe it as pragmatic and close to the real work: expect questions on options pricing and risk, systematic trading and clean code rather than a separate brain-teaser round.
