Why Hong Kong

Hong Kong is where trading firms reach the China connection. HKEX runs one of the world's largest markets in listed warrants and callable bull and bear contracts, products that barely exist at the same scale anywhere else, and Stock Connect provides access to the Shanghai and Shenzhen exchanges that no other venue offers. Desks here concentrate on Asian index derivatives and single-stock options, and for most Western firms the Hong Kong office complements Singapore rather than duplicating it: Singapore tends to carry the regional headquarters function while Hong Kong sits closest to the North Asian markets.

What Hong Kong interviews involve

Hong Kong hiring runs more to experienced traders moving within the region than to graduate intake, and final rounds are usually with the Asia desk rather than the firm's home office.
