Energy Market Structures and Regulations

Account required to view full content

Energy trades across several distinct market structures, and the rules that govern them differ by venue and by country. This lesson sorts that out. We cover the three market types that matter most, spot, futures, and over-the-counter, explaining what each is for and who uses it, then turn to the regulatory environment: the agencies that oversee energy markets, the environmental policies reshaping them, and how all of this varies from region to region. The aim is a clear working knowledge of where energy is bought and sold and the rules that keep those markets fair and functioning, which is the backdrop for every trade in the rest of the course.
