Phone Interviews – Betting and Strategy Games

Betting and strategy games come up in Jane Street’s phone interviews, sometimes already in the first round, and they carry even more weight at the final round. Typical questions: how much you would pay to take part in a game and how you would play it, how many of your chips to bet on a game with a positive expected value, which strategy to pick against other players, or a market on the rolls of several dice. The interviewer then changes a rule or a number and asks how your answer changes.
