Overview
In Amsterdam, IMC Trading follows its SHL test with a short HackerRank test of logic and mathematics questions: candidates who pass the SHL test get the invitation within a few hours. Candidates for US internships do not get this test. The test is three probability questions of medium difficulty, four minutes each, with typed answers. The questions are common trading-interview probability questions. There are no options to pick from, and time you don't use on one question does not carry over to the next, so fast, clean algebra matters more than advanced theory. This practice test gives you three questions from our question bank every run, four minutes each: probability questions on expected values, conditional probability, combinatorics and more, from a different topic each where possible. Every run skips the questions you have already had until you have seen them all. Every answer is marked at the end, with the correct answer and the full solution from the question bank. IMC's Interview Conduct Policy says technical assessments can run on a monitored platform that records your screen, so practice in one sitting, without notes. Feel free to use pen and paper.
Example
The full test, two minutes and five seconds into question 2. You type the answer and press Enter or Submit; question 3 opens straight away.
Example screen
The product of the three dice is odd only when all three dice are odd, which happens with probability (1/2)³ = 1/8. Every other roll gives an even product, so the answer is 1 − 1/8 = 7/8, or 0.875.

Game Phases
1
Read the question Each question is a short probability or expected-value problem in a few sentences. Read it once carefully: most lost points come from answering a slightly different question.
2
Work it out Feel free to use pen and paper. Set up the sample space or the equation first, then do the arithmetic.
3
Type your answer Type a whole number, a decimal, a fraction such as 5/12 or a percentage. Give a decimal to at least 3 significant figures, or round it the way the question asks. Press Enter or Submit to lock it in and move straight on to the next question.
4
Watch the clock Each question has its own four-minute clock. Time you save does not carry over, and there is no going back. When the clock runs out, whatever you have typed is submitted.
