Overview
The Expressions game shows you faces one at a time and asks which of seven emotions each one shows: happy, sad, angry, fearful, surprised, disgusted or neutral. Fifty faces in three minutes leaves about three and a half seconds each. The difficulty is subtlety: later faces show the emotion at lower intensity, and some pairs (fear and surprise, sadness and disgust, anger and disgust) share features. This tool draws its faces from the facial cues each emotion is known for, so the results screen can tell you which cue you missed, not just that you missed it.
Example: reading a face
Face 18 of 50 with 1:52 on the clock. Seven emotions to choose from, by click or the keys 1 to 7. The loop answers Surprised, then the next face appears at once: there is no feedback mid-run.
Example animation
1Happy
2Sad
3Angry
4Fearful
5Surprised
6Disgusted
7Neutral
Both faces are drawn by the game’s own renderer. Brows arched high, eyes wide and a mouth dropped open and rounded is surprise; fear would pull the brows together and stretch the mouth sideways instead.
This is a looping animation of the game screen, not the live game.

Game Phases
1
Look at the whole face
Brows, eyes, nose and mouth together. Surprise and fear both widen the eyes; only fear pulls the brows together and stretches the mouth sideways.
2
Pick the emotion
Click one of the seven options or press 1 to 7. The next face appears immediately; there is no feedback mid-run.
3
Expect it to get subtler
The first faces show clear expressions. From the middle of the run the intensity drops, which is where most mistakes happen.
4
Study the misses
The results list every face you misread with the correct answer and the cue that gives it away.

Scoring
+1
Correct emotion
Each face read correctly counts one.
0
Wrong emotion
A wrong pick scores nothing but is kept for the review, with the cue you missed.
%
Score
Runs are compared on accuracy. Average time per face is shown so you can check you keep the pace of the full run, about 3.6 seconds per face.
Accuracy over the faces you answered before the three minutes ran out. The seven emotions appear equally often in a shuffled order, so a per-emotion breakdown at the end shows exactly which expression costs you points.
